by Wendy J. Woudstra

Rating:

Pros:
•  Easy to use interface
•  Easy to configure password protection
•  It's free! (download HERE)

Cons:
•  Requires Microsoft Windows operating system
•  Limited browsing/searching functions
•  Fewer customization options than some other compilers.

Product Description:
Creates an HTML viewer executable of a directory and all the html, image and sound files in it.
Supports frames, Cascading Style Sheets, and custom page breaks.
Features custom icon and windows title, print preview function, full text search, and optional password protection.

Review:
There are a number of things to commend about this program, not the least of which is its price tag - FREE. But lest you think that you get what you pay for, let me point out some of the reasons this piece of freeware ranks a 3 star rating.

SbookBuilder offers a single menu from which the user selects the directory with the content to convert, the table of contents page within that directory, and the title. Optional features allow you to add a custom desktop icon, a password, and toggle printing on and off.

The finished ebook has no flashing banners or obtrusive buttons to distract from the reading experience, but neither does the program do anything to improve the look of the page, and the ebook is only as readable as the document it was created from.

The Bottom Line - If you're leaning toward using an HTML compiler to distribute your ebooks, SbookBuilder is a great little tool that takes no time at all to learn, and can produce a respectable looking ebook with minimal effort.
