I have to admit to being pleasantly surprised by this electronic book. My past experiences with ebooks sold and marketed
in this manner has been poor, but Jim Edwards and Joe Vitale actually deliver a solid, professional package that can and will
help many first-time non-fiction ebook authors.
The ebook itself is in PDF format, and printing is allowed, which makes it much easier to use if you don't use a Windows computer and/or
don't like reading onscreen. The layout is easy on the eyes, sparing the reader from much of the unprofessional design and clip
art-laden pages you might be expecting.
Edwards and Vitale begin by discussing how to research a suitable topic and angle for your ebook, how to appeal to your reader's motivations,
and how to overcome the barriers of mental objections and procrastination.
Once they've convinced you that you MUST write, the seven day process begins. At the end of the week (assuming you dedicate yourself
completely to the task) you may have something that closely resembles a saleable product. Most people will need some additional
time to refine their work, but once the words are on paper (or in this case, on screen) the hardest part of the job is done.
The authors also offer tips on writing for those not accustomed to writing for an audience, and tips on formatting the final product.
The book doesn't get disappointing until the final 100 pages, which is the section dedicated to 'Author Interviews' which seemed to me
to be little more than advertisements for the ebooks of others. While perhaps someone planning an ebook on Internet Marketing might
glean some information from the interviews, they don't offer much for the rest of us. It would have been nice to read some interviews
from people who electronically published in niches that more accurately reflect the interests of the vast majority of the people
who would benefit from this book.
The Bottom Line -
This is a well-written, and ultimately useful ebook that I would recommend for anyone who is interested in e-publishing non-fiction
but hasn't yet got up the gumption to tackle the keyboard. If you're already on your way to completing an ebook, or if your desire is to
write and publish fiction, this book isn't worth the high price.
