How to Write Love Letters : LETTER X. Reply.by Madame le Fontaine (Carleton B. Case, ed)
Return to "How to Write Love Letters" Index LETTER X. Reply.LETTER X. Reply. At Home, February 16, 1914. Dear Mr. Brown: I am almost afraid to commence a reply to your letter, for I am at a loss how to find suitable expression for what I would say. First of all I will thank you for it, and at the same time tell you very frankly that I am disengaged. But I rear to write more. That your offer is not disagreeable to me would be to say that I accept it, and yet I am not prepared to decline it. There is a great difference in our ages; still, others would observe that more than I should, and it may be that the mere number of years we have lived are of less consequence than the world generally supposes. You must not ask me to confess to more than a sincere regard for you -- my duty I can promise to do in whatever condition of life I may happen to be placed. If you think that this regard will meet the requirements which you would look for in such a young woman as I, it is yours. , I should try to be all to you that you desire, and if you feel that this assurance is sufficient, I will think more seriously of your kind offer than I think I ought at present. Yours, Clara Smith. |
