How to Write Love Letters : LETTER LXII. From a Young Lady to a Young...by Madame le Fontaine (Carleton B. Case, ed)
Return to "How to Write Love Letters" Index LETTER LXII. From a Young Lady to a Young...LETTER LXII. From a Young Lady to a Young Clergyman who has offered Marriage.Boston, August 8, 1913. My Dear Sir: I was indeed surprised and delighted by my visit to your charming little church last May, and was in every way impressed by the devout behavior of the congregation, and the evident pervading influence of the clergyman among his parishioners. I must own that the favorable impression thus formed of yourself has increased on our subsequent meetings at Providence, and that I have ever looked upon the life of a zealous clergyman as a guarantee of happiness to those around him. My friends here (to whom I have communicated the report of your flattering letter) plead strongly on your behalf; and I must candidly confess that I feel both honored and pleased by your preference. I cannot say more than that you will be a welcome visitor at Wanderwood, and that I hope our further acquaintance will tend to strengthen, rather than diminish, our mutual good-will. Believe me, my dear sir, Yours very faithfully, Olive Branch. To the Rev. Ebenezer Pye. |
